How to stop a nosebleed...

A bloody nose is rarely life threatening. However, a bloody nose might indicate a more serious condition. Always report to the nurse.
-
Have client lean forward, NOT back
-
Pinch nose and hold for 5 minutes
-
If bleeding does not stop, pinch nose and hold for 10 minutes
-
Do not let client blow their nose after bleeding stops
-
If bleeding doesn’t stop after the 3rd attempt, see the doctor
-
If client feels lightheaded, dizzy, or weak, or if the nosebleed is the result of trauma, call 911

Tilting the head back may cause blood to run down the back of your throat, and you may swallow it. Swallowed blood can irritate your stomach and cause vomiting.
